Water-Based Coatings: Transport Classification & Shipping — A Practical Guide
Water-based wall coatings are inherently low-hazard; each shipment’s transport class is set by the applicable appraisal — arranged per order, not a standing general-cargo status. Done right, this can trim 30–80% off dangerous-goods freight.
Water-based wall coatings are inherently low-hazard — water-borne, flash point above 60°C, APEO-free, heavy metals within limits.
Transport classification for each shipment is set by the applicable appraisal (货物运输条件鉴定书), arranged per order; we do not assert a standing non-hazardous general-cargo status.
Arrange the appraisal before booking, keep the certificate with the shipping documents, and never let a forwarder default-classify a water-based product under UN1263 by default.
When the applicable appraisal supports non-dangerous treatment, the saving on a 20GP can reach 30–80% versus dangerous-goods freight.
Note: PU/NC wood coatings are UN1263 and require dangerous-goods packaging — this does not apply to them.
